Appointed
in 2010, Vergil Ratliff has worked in the field of law enforcement
for nearly 30 years. She is an Instructor and training
coordinator for the Houston Community
College’s Public Safety Institute where she develops curriculum
and instruction for
students who are attending the Law Enforcement Academy. She retired
from the Houston Police Department in May, 2010 after 27 years as
a Police Officer where she worked in various areas related to Mayor’s
protection duty, patrol, community service, counseling, training,
internal investigations and implementing policies and procedures
for community services and various police divisions.

She
has worked with HCC as a professor since 1989 educating students
from the
Criminal Justice Training Academy. She received a Bachelors of Arts
in Political
Science and a Masters in Public Administration from Texas Southern
University. Ms. Ratliff has received many honors and appointments
during her career in public safety. A few of them include: Outstanding
Achievement Award, Police Officers Selection Committee, Outstanding
Community Service Award, Chief of Police Commendation, Mayor’s
Task Force for Alcohol and Drug Abuse, Task Force for Women Against
Violence, Texas War on Drugs
